Have you ever imagined automating your road signage projects using Civil 3D?
Have you ever imagined automating your projects? road signs using Civil 3D? There is no denying that Civil 3D has been a major advance for our road projects since mid-2008. But what about our road signage specifically with Civil 3D? It is common knowledge that there are not many automations available, which forces us to perform several manual tasks in our day-to-day work as designers.
Below, I will show you some examples of these tasks that are certainly common in your routine. In addition, I will show you how the compatibility between sinC, our road signage plug-in, and the already well-known Civil 3D, makes these tasks MUCH simpler, REALLY!
Come on, follow along with me, designer:
1 – Insertion of Plates in specific KM/Piles:
Suppose in this first example you need to place a no passing sign (R-7) on both sides of your highway at KM 1+80. You could draw an XLINE at the KM point or draw a perpendicular line, but the manual options are virtually endless!
However, none of these options compare to the automation you can achieve with sinC + Civil 3D. See how easy it is: just indicate the KM where your sign will be inserted and that's it! Your vertical signage, with support and sign, will already be positioned and aligned with the road. See:

You can simply indicate the KM where your sign will be inserted and that's it! Your vertical signage with support and sign is already positioned and aligned with the road.
2 – Insertion of Horizontal signage with START and END at specific KM's/Stakes:
The case is simple and common: you need to insert an LFO-2 (Line of Opposite Flow) allowing overtaking from KM 0 to 2 and then an LFO-4 at KM 2 until the end of a curve, preventing overtaking on the left side of the road. This is a classic, isn't it?
Using the manual option, you would need to offset from one side to the other, then trim, and finally adjust the horizontal signage.
Now, imagine if you could simply indicate where your horizontal signage begins and ends, as well as the type of lane, and “PLIM” – like magic – they would be represented in your project. With sinC + Civil 3D, this is possible! See:

3 – Implementation of Kilometric Markers throughout the stretch
The vast majority of large stretches of road have mile markers running the length of the stretch on both sides of the road. Let's face it: inserting them one by one is quite repetitive and time-consuming.
But with sinC + Civil 3D, this task can be automated. Simply indicate the start and end of the section, and the software will insert the kilometer markers on both sides of the road, quickly and efficiently.
With this beautiful marriage between sinC and Civil 3D, just one command:

4 – Implementation of Alignment Markers on curves
This is typical! I'm sure you (like me) have already spent a few hours inserting the classic MA's into the curves of your project. But with sinC + Civil 3D, the conversation is different.
Instead of spending hours manually inserting each MA, simply indicate the curve type and the software will automatically insert the appropriate MAs into all the curves in the project. This is a great advantage that sinC offers over manual options.

So, did you like it?!
I have been very excited to explore the possibilities of Civil 3D and streamline its automations, bringing specific functionalities to road signage!
If you wanted to be part of this movement, I'm leaving it here website to learn about our signaling plug-in, sinC, and explore the wonders we mentioned above.
I am sure of one thing: The future of automation for road signaling projects is here. The choice is ours whether to embark on this new “wave” or not, lol.

FAQ – Automating Road Signage Projects with Civil 3D
1. Is it possible to automate road signage projects in Civil 3D?
Yes! Although Civil 3D doesn't offer many specific features for road signage by default, it's possible to automate several tasks using plugins like... sinC, which was developed specifically for this type of project.
2. What is the sinC plugin?
THE sinC It is a road signage plugin that works in conjunction with Civil 3D. It was created to automate repetitive and complex tasks, such as inserting signs, horizontal lines, kilometer markers, and alignment markers, optimizing the designer's time.
3. What tasks does sinC automate in Civil 3D?
With sinC you can automate:
- Insertion of vertical signs at specific KMs;
- Insertion of horizontal bands with defined start and end points;
- Installation of kilometer markers along entire stretches;
- Installation of alignment markers on curves.
4. What is the main advantage of using sinC + Civil 3D?
The main advantage is... drastic reduction in time spent on manual tasks and repetitive. Furthermore, you gain in precision, productivity, and quality of the final project, with less rework and faster deliveries.
5. Is sinC easy to use for those already familiar with Civil 3D?
Yes. sinC was designed to be intuitive and compatible with workflows already familiar to Civil 3D users. Integration is simple, and the commands follow a functional logic for the day-to-day work of designers.
6. Do I need advanced Civil 3D knowledge to use sinC?
Not necessarily. If you already use Civil 3D in your projects, it will be easy to incorporate sinC into your routine. The plug-in was developed to make things easier and... don't complicate things.
7. What are the practical results of automation with sinC?
In addition to saving time, you:
- Avoids insertion errors;
- Standardize the project elements;
- Ensures compliance with signage standards;
- Work with greater comfort and safety.
8. How can I purchase or learn more about sinC?
You can access the official website of SEABRA and explore all the available features. There you'll find tutorials, demo videos, and you can request a trial version or a quote.
👉 Final tip:
If you're a road sign designer and you're still doing everything manually, it's time to rethink. The integration of SinC with Civil 3D This represents the next step for those who want to excel in the road infrastructure sector with greater productivity, accuracy, and peace of mind.
